The Creation of "Memoirs of a Server" Blog
After the crazy things that happen, the many different people I've met-- from the AMAZING customers to the ones who you wish you'd never met, life is NEVER dull serving tables! I really enjoy my job. I've met people that will be lasting friends, long after my employment is over. To me, that is the silver lining. But don't worry. I know the difference between the diners who are out to enjoy an evening with who they're with, who do not like to chat with their server and the diners who are social butterflies--or the ones who, as part of their experience, hope for some fun light conversation-- because I'm both of these people, too. I've waited on the kind, the humble, the generous, the famous, the weatlhy, the yesterday's politicians, the elderly (some of my favorite--they are precious to me), the young newly weds, the new little family, the wheelchair bound. I've served the proud, the arrogant, the slave driver, and the self entitled. I've served the people who lay it all on the table like it's their last day and they want to share all they own and I've waited on those who do not believe in tipping at all. However, I can be rest assured that, at the very least, I have quite an experience each evening I work, and if I'm lucky, I come home with a lesson learned about life either through example or by experience. All combined make it by far one of the most interesting and satisfying jobs I've ever had.
